Marshmallow Nutella Hand Pies

The inspiration for these cute little pies comes from a lattice pocket pie press I bought at Williams-Sonoma last year. The press creates the cutest little lattice hand pies, but it's a real pain to use. Then I remembered these cute little Valentine's day cookie cutters I bought a few years back and decided to make my own little pies. So what's a hand pie? Well it's the size of a cookie, with the taste and look of a pie!

These little guys have a little less wow-factor than their lattice friends, but they're festive and pack a lot of gooey flavor. I mean, who doesn't love Nutella and marshmallow? Best of all? It will only take you about a half hour to prep and bake them. They're perfect for a Valentine's day after-school snack for the kids!

Marshmallow Nutella Hand Pies
Makes 7 pies

1 package refrigerated pie crust (or your favorite homemade pie dough)
1 cup Nutella
1 cup marshmallow fluff
1 egg
turbinado sugar for sprinkling

Preheat oven to 450.

In a small bowl, crack the egg and give it a good whisk.

Roll out your pie dough and use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut circles out of the dough. You should get about 14 or 15 circles using 2 sheets of dough.

Place seven of the circles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Using a pastry brush, brush the edges of the circles with the egg wash. Spoon one tablespoon of marshmallow fluff and one tablespoon of Nutella into the center of each circle. Use an offset spatula or a butter knife to spread the filling and to add a swirled effect to the mixture.

Use small cookie cutters to cut a shape out of each remaining circle. Top each filled circle with a cut out circle and crease the edges of the pie with a fork. Brush the top of the pies with the egg wash and top it with the remaining dough cutouts for decoration. Repeat with the remaining pies.

Sprinkle the pies with turbinado sugar and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
